January 23 2011 marks the start of CGB’s Ireland-UK tour, that will see the boys making stops in Limerick, Dundalk, Galway, Glasgow, Manchester, London, and Cardiff.

We’re excited to be escaping the Canadian Winter to visit some old friends and make new ones in Ireland at some of the coolest live trad venues, spinning through the final days of the Celtic Connections Festival, and taking to the road in a bus full of rowdy Cape Bretoners…including Tom Fun Orchestra, Dawn & Margie Beaton, and Gillian Boucher for the Cape Breton Sound Tour. See the tour promo video here. What a terrible time it will be.

Only the Glasgow show is limited to Festival delegates; but that doesn’t mean members of CGB aren’t open to coming to play a show at your house in exchange for meat pies and sausage rolls. Ireland shows are 18 and over, and the England/Wales shows are as well, but are free!

Check below for information on the gigs and venues, or join the Facebook events to see who’s going. We’ll have the new CGB T-shirts and copies of ‘Fun For The Whole Family’ available for sale, along with a free mp3 of an unreleased CGB track from our upcoming album for anybody interested in signing up for our mailing list. Cheers, and hope to see you soon!

It will be a slightly warmer Christmas this year for Colin as he takes off on Christmas Day for Australia with Tom Fun Orchestra. It has been since their 2009 “Canadian Boxcar” National Tour since he hit the road with the ECMA-award winning group, and he is excited about the prospect of meeting Katie the Kangaroo, Wally the Wallaby, playing the Peats Ridge Festival in New South Wales, seeing the New Years Eve fireworks over Sydney Harbour, and beating Tom Fun drummer Tommy Stallion in a “Shrimp-on-the-barbee” eating contest.

See www.tomfun.ca for a list of their tour dates, and check out their slew of videos on YouTube here.

Movember is for Moustaches and More

The Combined Facial Hair of Colin Grant BandThe Mo, slang for moustache, and November come together each year for Movember.

Movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men’s health by growing a moustache. The rules are simple, start Movember 1st clean-shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month.  The moustache becomes the ribbon for men’s health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for prostate cancer.  Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days.

The Colin Grant Band is proud to be performing at the Sydney MO Party at the Royal Cape Breton Yacht Club on Friday Movember 26 to promote the MOvement, along with Chad Tetford and Taylor Burton. We hope that all MoBros and Sistas will come out for a wicked night of tunes, dancing, and immaculate grooming for a dandy cause. Tunes start at 6pm with Taylor, 6:30 with Chad, and CGB will close out the night 9:30-1am

Colin Grant Band thanks its lucky stars every day that we have our good buddy Darren McMullen onstage with us. ‘Cause it just so happens that D is one of the most  sought-after accompanists in the province, and it’s pretty cool when he gets to share tunes with others. So this month, he makes us proud as he hits the road with Raylene, Cookie, Heather, and Jimmy for The Rankins Family’s Up Close and Personal Acoustic Tour. He joins guitarist Jamie Robinson and multi-instrumentalist Cathy Porter to form the Rankins’ acoustic band, and we couldn’t be more proud! Check out a list of their Ontario tour dates for the rest of this month, and see what Darren is up to on the solo front, or pick up his album Decade at www.darrenmcmullen.com .
